Thoughts about God

The Bane of Self-Sabotage.

Are you prone to exhibiting self-sabotaging behaviour? Photo Credit: Unsplash How do you even know if you are, assuming it’s become a rather subconscious habit of yours, unintentionally developed over time? It’s like you’re armed on a battlefield, only to find that the enemy is yourself. By self-sabotage, you’re practically shooting yourself in the leg […]

The Bane of Self-Sabotage.

I was reading a devotional this morning and the author said this and I thought of this post to share:

“Doubt and destiny are like two sides of a coin. Most of our self-doubt comes from the opinions, expectations, and wounds of others passed down as wisdom. We’ve been taught to believe in God but never taught how to believe in ourselves in a healthy and hearty way. When lingering inner thoughts whisper that we’re not good enough, loved enough, worthy enough, or just enough, we shrink. We settle. And we self-sabotage.”

It won’t matter what marvellous and wonderful things God has in store for us if we are exhibiting self-limiting behaviours. He won’t take us past the level we’re willing to go. That’s where faith comes into action. The saying ‘heaven helps those who help themselves’ albeit non-biblical is true to some extent. We know we serve a God that believes in free will. He’s not one to force His blessings on us. The Bible says:

But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord.
James 1:6‭-‬7 NIV

We see how much God requires our faith to be active in everything we do in this life. There’s no other way, except to live a life full of faith. That’s the only way to get the best out of what God desires to offer.

  1. Good thoughts. We refer to such self imposed limiting actions, behaviors and attitudes as self-defeating. They limit the progress, success level achievements etc. of the individual.
Identifying such in one’s life and dealing with them wisely will help a lot.
    Thanks.
