Word Weapon

Words are one of the most powerful weapons available to man. Wars are started and ended by words themselves. According to the Bible, the world was created by words. The Bible referred to as the word of God also lets us know that the words we speak are spirit and they are life. John 6:63

How then do we use our words? In what ways do we weaponize these powerful tools? Do we use them for good or otherwise?

The words we speak are capable of building or tearing down. How we use them is totally up to us, but as the famous spiderman saying goes, “with great power comes great responsibility”. Hence, we’re to be mindful of how we use this liberty of speech.

We hear of internet trolls who do not care much about the impact of their words on others but choose to hide behind the anonymity of the internet screen to hurt others. But how much more rewarding is it when we speak words that uplift and encourage.

One who’s mastered the use of words is often called a Wordsmith. Flowery words can be used to inspire artistic awe or provide intrinsic motivation. When applied with wrongful intentions, can be tools of deceit and manipulation.

There are times when we might fall into temptation and provocation, resulting in us speaking words that are less than tasteful. It is human to err, but we can make conscious efforts of this to retrace our steps once again into being graceful with our words.

The Bible tells us to let our words be seasoned with salt that they might be pleasant to the hearers. Col. 4:6 and Eph. 4:29 (merged).

Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.
Colossians 4:6 KJV

Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.
Ephesians 4:29 KJV

As I look through scripture, meditating on these instructions, they do seem like a tall order, and I’ve found myself guilty of violating them. However, I’m thankful for daily mercies giving room for growth and improvement. Getting to where we want to be or who we are would always be a deliberate effort not accidental.

Knowing the impact of mere words, imagine the incredible power we have at our disposal when we declare, affirm or confess God’s word. That truly is the ultimate weapon for life.

Moving forward, I hope we get to use the weapons in our arsenal wisely, to benefit not just ourselves, but others as well.
